In parallel with the 11th edition of the international circus festival of Bayeux, and on the occasion of its 20th anniversary, Le Radar has gathered a multitude of plastic works to take you on its trail to the stars!

En leur temps, les artistes modernes ont trouvé dans l’univers circassien un espace de liberté propice à leurs expérimentations picturales. Ils y ont puisé un répertoire foisonnant de motifs, de formes et de figures à rejouer et réinventer pour déconstruire les normes sociales, idéologiques et culturelles de leur époque. Ce spectacle fascinant – tantôt corrosif, tantôt poétique – qui a la singularité d’exulter la vie autant qu’il exalte les sens a su capter les courants artistiques les plus novateurs. Mais qu’en est-il de la création contemporaine ? De quelles manières cette synesthésie des sens et cet espace de liberté sont-ils rejoués par les arts visuels aujourd’hui ?

In their time, modern artists found in the Circassian universe a space of freedom conducive to their pictorial experimentations. They drew from it an abundant repertoire of motifs, forms and figures to replay and reinvent in order to deconstruct the social, ideological and cultural norms of their time. This fascinating show – sometimes corrosive, sometimes poetic – which has the uniqueness of exulting life as much as it exalts the senses was able to capture the most innovative artistic currents. But what about contemporary creation? In what ways is this synesthesia of the senses and this space of freedom being replayed by the visual arts today?
